You are right, Congressman, but the immediate need is to use the end of the current short-term continuing resolution for funding of DHS as a hammer to force real change. As a beginning:

1. Democracy is under ever more fierce attack, as Trump and his accomplices see the threat of the November elections creeping closer. So, a first priority must be to eliminate—so far as possible—the department’s ability to threaten the voting. To that end, an absolute requirement for an agreement must be a provision specifying that ICE, CBP and other DHS enforcement agencies may not be within, say, 500 yards of a polling place while it is open, except under authority of a warrant issued upon probable cause.

2. It should be made clear as a matter of law that ICE and CBP cannot enter a private space (home or office) on an administrative warrant, but only one one issued by a court.

3. There should be strict requirements for the operation of places where those being held for possible deportation are kept, including heat, light, adequate food and access to counsel.

4. The right of members of Congress or their staffs to visit detention centers without advance notice should be in a separate statute, and not tied to a particular appropriation. (The maladministration has claimed that it could impose conditions, because the provision allowing such inspections was tied to an earlier appropriation that was overtaken by money in the One Big Bad Bill Act.)

5. The One Big Bad Bill Act included an endowment for ICE through fiscal 2029. That should be clawed back. Bernie Sanders proposed that, an it almost passed the Senate. If Republicans thought the claw-back necessary to get any money for DHS, they might agree.

While the bills you describe are worthy, reining in the DHS Gestapo is absolutely vital. Will you commit to doing all you can to that end?

Liability for online content, with a narrow focus as you have discussed, seems like real "work" Congress can accomplish. This brief post is an excellent overview of a topic I know you have spent an incredible amount of time and personal capital to bring to it's current form. Keep pushing. We need real progress, not just outrage. Keep sharing these "big ideas," Jake.

I strongly support you on both of these bills. Thank you for taking the initiative!

Yes to Jon’s “immediate need” proposals during the NeXT week or two. I also support your two bills for regulating AI. Stay strong Congressman!

I second the information posted by Jon Margolis re: DHS/ ICE and enjoin you to put your full support behind the measures he proposed as they are of utmost and timely importance. See to your bills after the threat to the rule of law has been addressed (warrantless home entry, first amendment rights etc), ICE shall not be near polling places, improved requirements for the conditions where detainees are being held, clawing back the $ appropriation for ICE etc.

In Scandinavia (I believe it is Sweden) it is literally against the law to "advertise" to children. It is against the law to create ads or content with the intent to influence the behavior and choices of children for any purpose including marketing to them to profit from their demographic.

Just an example of how much in a cave of ignorance to serve the master "corporations" and the owners who run those corporations we are as a people. We cannot even imagine such thoughtful and important legislation. Do we not deserve such protection? Does not your child? Does such a fact it is a given that children must be protected and families supported in other countries make your draw drop?

Can you imagine raising children where it is safe to send them to school and teaching them how to respond to an armed intruder is not necessary? Can you imagine living in a country where the family is looked at as the greatest asset inside that country; one to be supported by things like good healthcare for all and excellent daycare (free) for children allowing both parents to work if only to increase income but certainly to continue their careers and the practice of those careers AND raise children.

I am in complete support of legislature that flips the insane place family and our children and our needs have been relegated so we can produce and give back to society versus the "plan" which is to starve us and afford no sustenance and pit us against each other left to slave and serve from hell. The government allowed to go feral by the people has no respect for you and does not care about your welfare, rights or your children.

So, we must pick it up and care for EACH OTHER and accept each other embracing diversity and our differences. We are a powerfully potential force of nature. Over 250 years our face has changed a blend of cultures. A people who are not seeking to be oligarchs or part of an influential elites connected to each by a mutual draw toward practicing abuse and pedophilia involving the capturing and even killing of their victims now buried somewhere on a ranch in New Mexico at the very least.

We want to be productive in our work and part of a community of neighbors. We want to be good parents and see their children thrive and reach their full potential. We are Americans and before us lies a banquet which is all of us and our differences. We are more alike than we are not especially in our hearts.

Look at me. I am not your enemy, but the enemy has found our weakest flank which is fear of diversity at a visceral level. And from that platform we have been divided. Why? Because it weakens the greatest threat to an oligarch and an authoritarian, which is us united? The enemy fears we will find each other and unite. Give them something fear. Join your community. Get out the vote and vote! Take it back. Unite. And vote!

An election cannot be stolen if everyone votes. Check your voting status. It may have changed. Offer help to the weak, elderly and afraid registering or getting to the polls or signing up for mail in voting. First check your status for it may have changed. Then do one thing: VOTE! Look to Minneapolis a community united in its diversity. They are you and we are them. We are formidable united. Let's "turn this ship around and go home" together! I am not your enemy.

Hope it also repeals Section 230 which as you have said many times, is programming and poisoning our kids on a daily basis -- make them liable and things will rapidly improve quickly! Go Jake!

I'm no expert but these bills seem like good ideas.

But gadzooks, man! Where are your priorities?! American citizens are being murdered by our government. Fixing that would seem to be jobs 1 to 3. I'm sure we all have different priorities we'd rank from 4 to 10 but its hard to believe that social media is in anyone's top 5. You yourself have identified several much more important issues starting with housing and education. I just read that 1/3 (ONE THIRD!) of boston public high school seniors are in danger of not graduating this year. THAT is a crisis.

You want this is in your back pocket for sometime late in '27 or early '28 after a blue wave (inshallah!) makes some changes possible, be my guest. Putting this on the front burner right now when the country is burning seems like a bad use of your time and position.

This is hopeless. The bad guys have no interest in following whatever laws are promulgated and will continue to find ways to circumvent them, whether because of a profit motive, psychological problems or just sheer ornaryness. The best bet is for vigorous enforcement (too expensive) and sever penalties. But try making those stick on, for instance, Russian bud guys.

SUE THEM !!!!

how many times does it need to be said - you hit them in the face or in the pocketbook - nothing else matters.

Notice that Fox News has changed it's tune on a lot of commentary because of the lost lawsuit.

This proposed bill is an excellent idea. It should be preceeded by a bill to outlaw unlimited money --and to make political donations transparent--in US politics. Once we have lawmakers no longer purchased by special interests will this proposed bill have any chance.

Thank you for leading these. I feel there are two more relevant upstream issues. 1) this happens because of the way campaign money moves in the system. No parent supports AI chat bots messing with our kids…yet, they freely do. Until the wealthy and their hundreds of millions are cut out of the system, this will never change. 2) these companies all need to be broken up through a massive new antitrust act. This is in every industry, massive companies are so vertically integrated they control everything. These companies on a sheet of paper all look like a complex drug cartel organization.

You say "Laws are what’s missing. Republican leadership in Congress won’t even consider them. Democrats should lead the charge."

No, Morality is what is missing and it is missing throughout the political system in our country. Democrats and Republicans.

And it is missing in the Tech world. It's the Tech world that drives the economy and the Stock Market. The Genie is out of the bottle with Meta and Nvidia and Sam Altman and Musk and...

AI is G-d to America today. It has infected business and politics and more importantly the media. You can pass all the Laws you want but human beings need to enforce the laws and we cannot even deal with our own Constitution in a sane and consisitent way.

Defund Congress and that may be a start.

You can get rid of Trump and ICE and the DHS Gestopo and Police and every appointed official Trump has put in place and what would you have? Saintly Democrats?

You know better.

Until you can get beyond "Trump is responsible for all your ills", all the Laws you can come up with are worthless.

And you cannot mandate Wisdom.

The biggest "Deepfake" in America is our Government. And you do not even realize it. Start by looking in the mirror in the morning as anyone in govenment should be doing.

There is OUR problem.

Thank you so very much for taking the lead on these important bills. Looking forward to hearing your strategy about ICE and upcoming election interference.
